Chanel, a brand that has supplied the culture for near a century regarding upscale fashion. The brands birthday was just honored 34 days ago. She was a french designer who’s mother passed early and father abandoned her. Coco would grow up as an orphan. Her overall objective was to convey simplicity to all walks of women, to rid them of irregular and uncomfortable clothing. Examples such as petticoats or corsets. To put this in your perspective you may want to think of how women dressed in the medieval times or Britain royalty in the early 1800’s. Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel, the original creative director unfortunately passed in 1971. Due to close associates like Karl Lagerfeld, who has now taken the position for Coco and other big brands such as Fendi. Coco’s name, brand, and style will continue to live on for the moment. Always drawing inspiration from the past to curate the Chanel line. I feel this brand will always provide staple pieces.
Chanel started November 18th, 1924. After receiving trademarks, the brand would invite everyone
to the world of Chanel No. 5 in April of 1926. This timeless scent as well as the other cosmetic products Chanel provided would be just a start to this fashion house success. Coco stayed away from complex designs and this would show throughout her collection. Creating pieces like a collarless cardigan jacket, the bias cut dress, shoe string shoulder straps, and floating evening scarves. One of my favorite things would be wearing together of junk and real jewels. As this is something that I still apply to some of my everyday looks. All these things were eye opening garments that helped propel the brand. Things would slow down due to WWII and the false accusations of her supporting the Nazi’s. During this time male designers would rise and attempt to shadow Coco. Despite the adversity, Chanel’s resurgence would come in 1954 when the couture house was re-opened for business. Most of its success would come from America and areas of Britain. Still to this present day the brands quilted bags are coveted items. Due to the consistency of this company, even vintage items still hold their value.
The brand still has a big influence on the millennial era. Items such as purses, bags, accessories,
and sneakers from this designer are sought after. Speaking for myself, I would be infatuated with the
silk scarves and the broach’s that are provided by this great fashion house. Coco or Chanel will continue to grow. Who doesn’t like double C’s all over there body?
